Stop Looking for Time—Start Making It

Stop Looking for Time—Start Making It

One of the biggest excuses people give for not getting in shape? 👉 “I just don’t have the time.”

But let’s be real—time isn’t something you “find.” You don’t stumble across an extra hour hidden under the sofa. You make time by prioritising what actually matters.

And the truth is, most of us have more time than we think—we’re just spending it on things that don’t serve us.

So instead of waiting for your schedule to magically clear up, let’s talk about where your time is actually going and how you can take control of it.

Where Is Your Time Really Going?

We all get the same 24 hours a day. But how we use them is what separates people who make consistent progress from those who stay stuck.

Let’s break it down:

📱 Screen Time Sucks More Hours Than You ThinkStudies show the average European spends over 3 hours a day on digital media. That’s 21+ hours a week—almost a full day. Imagine what you could do with even half that time. (emarketer.com)

📺 Mindless TV Binging Is a Productivity KillerIn Europe, 74% of people watch TV regularly. That’s hours lost every night that could be spent meal prepping, getting steps in, or fitting in a quick workout. (statista.com)

📲 Social Media Is a Black HoleNearly half of British teenagers admit they feel addicted to social media, with some spending 7+ hours a day on apps like TikTok and Instagram. Adults aren’t much better. We pick up our phones an average of 58 times per day. (thetimes.co.uk)

Poor Time Management is the Real ProblemResearch from Acuity Training UK found that less than 20% of people use a proper time management system—while 82% just wing it, hoping to fit everything in. (acuitytraining.co.uk)

The reality? Most people don’t lack time—they just don’t manage it well.

How to Actually Make Time for Fitness (And Stop Making Excuses)

If you want to be in control of your results, you need to take responsibility for your time. Here’s how:

1. Audit Your Time

For the next few days, track how you spend your time. Write down:

  • How many hours you spend scrolling social media.

  • How much time is spent watching TV.

  • Where you’re mindlessly wasting time instead of being productive.

This alone will be eye-opening.

2. Find Your Unproductive Hours (And Use Them Better)

Once you know where your time is going, swap unproductive hours for better habits: Instead of scrolling, go for a walk. Instead of watching Netflix for hours, use 30 minutes to meal prep. Instead of mindless phone time, get a quick workout in.

Think about it—if you replaced just 30 minutes of social media a day with a workout or meal prep, that’s over 3 hours a week dedicated to your goals.

3. Set a Consistent Schedule (And Stick to It)

You don’t need motivation. You need a plan. If you schedule your workouts and meal prep the same way you schedule work meetings or social events, you’ll be far more consistent.

Some ideas:

✔ Wake up 30-60 minutes earlier and get your workout done first thing.

✔ Plan workouts & meal prep in your calendar so they don’t get pushed aside.

✔ Use time-blocking—set non-negotiable times for exercise and healthy habits.

What Happens When You Take Control of Your Time?

Once you stop saying, “I don’t have time,” and start taking control of how you spend it, everything changes:

You’ll be consistent because workouts and meal prep become part of your routine.

You’ll feel more in control, rather than always scrambling to “fit things in.”

You’ll realise you had more time than you thought—you just weren’t using it properly.

A UK study even found that people who actively manage their time experience lower stress and higher well-being than those who don’t. (bps.org.uk)

It’s not about finding time—it’s about making time.
